Simple Past

É um tempo verbal que mostra ações ocorridas no passado, que começam e terminam lá.

Ele é formado, nas frases afirmativas:

  • acrescentando-se "ed", "d" ou "ied" após os verbos regulares. Ex.: love => loved. Study => studied. Talk => talked.
  • Nos verbos irregulares, o passado é feito de maneiras diferentes, sendo necessário gravar ou consultar uma lista de verbos irregulares. Ex.: drink => drank (não drinked - isso não existe, está errado).

Para frases interrogativas, usa-se o auxiliar do, no passado "did". Ex.:

  • Did you brush your teeth yesterday?
  • Did she phone a friend yesterday?

Perceba que o verbo não muda, fica como no infinitivo (porém, sem o "to". Apenas o did é acrescentado, antes da pessoa).

E para frases negativas, também se usa o "did", acompanhado pelo "not". Ex.:

  • I didn't listen to music.
  • He didn't play tennis.

Obs.: no verbo To Be, o passado faz-se com was (I, He, She, It) e were (You, We, They).
