Large storms have different names in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. A violent storm with circular wind is called a cyclone,in the tropics,a typhoon in the western Pacific,and a hurricane in the western Atlantic. A smaller storm of this kind with a narrow path is called a tornado or twister when it occurs on land.
