William Shakespeare (Stratford-upon-Avon, 1564 Stratford-upon-Avon, 23 April 1616, was an English poet, playwright and actor, who was the greatest writer of the English language and the most influential playwright in the world. It is often called the national Poet of England and "Bard of Avon" (or simply The Bard, "the Bard"). Of his works, including those in collaboration, remained until the days of today 38 pieces, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few more sparse verses, whose authorship, however, are still disputed. His pieces have been translated into all the major modern languages and are more staged than any other playwright. [4] Many of his texts and themes remain alive until today, being revisited frequently, especially in theater, television, film and literature.
