Yes, I think so. If you show to students the negatives points of something like stereotypes or prejudice, you can stimulate a critical sense of the whole, of the composition truth that is the social reality. These moments can be promoted by discussion, research and development of group activities.

Well, depending of how the teacher is going to approach the subject... it's possible.
For example, if bad things are happening, the teacher have to give the right information(but the whole information, the two or more parts of the facts) to activate/stimulate the critical sense of each student, like making them think about the matter under discussion and the possible solutions they can reach thinking like that, helping them growing their critical sense, then they can debate.
