Com o verbo to be no simple past não é usado o auxiliar did para fazer orações negativas ou interrogativas, que é o que acontence com os demais verbos.


Com o verbo to be

Afirmativa: I was late for school yesterday.

You were very happy last night.

He was worried about the future.

We were proud of ourselves.

They were tired of waiting for their friends.


Interrogativa: Was I late for school yesterday?

Were you very happy last night?

Was he worried about the future?

Were we proud of ourselves?

Were they tired of waiting for their friends?


Negativa: I wasn't late for school yesterday.

You weren't very happy last night.

He wasn't worried about the future.

We weren't proud of ourselves.

They weren't tired of waiting for their friends.


Com os outros verbos

Afirmativa: I did my homework this morning.

You phoned your mother.

She ate pizza with her friends.

We drank too much at the party.

Interrogativa: Did I do my homework this morning?
