Você necessitará fazer o uso de was (para he/she/it/I) e were (para you/they/we/you) mais o verbo principal no gerúndio (terminação verbal "ING") .
Exemplo:
I was going to school...
He was learning English...
We were traveling...
You were studying...

O past continous é formado pelo past simple do verb to be
WAS para (I/HE/SHE/IT)
e WERE para (YOU/THEY/WE) + o gerúndio ING
Mary was dancing with her boyfriend
