The story goes that the coxinha came about due to the likes of a boy who lived at Morro Azul Farm, a property that was located in the interior of São Paulo, more precisely in Limeira. Arriving for lunch, the boy came across that delicacy, which caused some strangeness. However, he decided to try it and ended up liking the newest recipe very much. For this reason, the news ended up spreading around, even to the empress Tereza Cristina, who was tempted to try this shredded chicken delight. This boy was not just any child, for he had Princess Isabel as his mother and the Count d'Eu as his father. Raised on the farm, the young man was considered a "special child," so he lived on many perks and totally isolated. His greatest pleasure was chicken thighs. The empress also fell in love with the salty and asked for the recipe to be passed to the chef of the imperial palace. With this, the reputation of the drumstick grew even more, however was at the time a recipe made only in the halls of Brazilian royalty. One fine day, the farm cook realized that the chicken thighs would not be enough to satiate everyone at lunch. So he took other parts of the bird, shredded it and stuffed it into a dough made of potatoes and flour. This was a desperate measure of the cook, for the boy was very spoiled and would surely cause a great stir if there were not enough chicken thighs for him.
