Em inglês, os pronomes possessivos concordam com o ser que possui a coisa, não com a coisa possuída.

Usamos "his" quando o referente é masculino ("ele"); e "her" quando o referente é feminino ("ela").

Mas ambos têm o mesmo sentido: "seu(s)" ou "sua(s)".
