Como dito no enunciado, There was é usado no singular e There were, no plural.

Na forma interrogativa, o verbo haver no passado fica: “Was there…?” ou “Were there…?”:

Já na forma negativa, basta dizer there was not (there wasn’t) ou there were not (there weren’t).

A) Lots of books indica plural, logo:

There were lots of books on the shelf.

Interrogativa: Were there lots of books on the shelf?

Negativa: There were not lots of books on the shelf.

B) A mirror está no singular, logo:

There was a mirror in our hall.

Interrogativa: Was there a mirror in our hall?

Negativa: There was not a mirror in our hall.

C) 12 cushions indica plural, logo:

There were 12 cushions on the sofa.

Interrogativa: Were there 12 cushions on the sofa?

Negativa: There were not 12 cushions on the sofa.

D) A big wardrobe indica singular, logo:

There was a big wardrobe in my sister's bedroom.

Interrogativa: Was there a big wardrobe in my sister's bedroom?

Negativa: There was not a big wardrobe in my sister's bedroom.

E) Children é o plural de child, logo:

There were children in the yard.

Interrogativa: Were there children in the yard?

Negativa: There were not children in the yard.

Espero ter ajudado.
