Para que possamos compreender sobre o passado simples na língua inglesa, primeiramente é necessário que se tenha conhecimento acerca da gramática básica da língua, que envolve o uso de distintas classes de palavras que formam uma sentença com sentido.

Nesse sentido, o passado simples entra como um tempo verbal no passado, ou seja, acerca de uma ação que começou e finalizou no passado, sem necessariamente estar envolvido com o presente. Com isso em mente, a gramática que usamos no passado simples para os verbos é também, simples, precisamos acrescentar o "ed" ao final dos verbos nas frases afirmativas.
