Pronouns (pronomes) são palavras que substituem nomes.
Subject pronoun é referente ao sujeito, ou seja quem faz aacção.
Object pronoun é referente ao objecto, que não faz acção alguma
Os pronomes subjectivos são em português, os pronomes do caso reto. São usados para substituir o sujeito, para evitar a repetição de nomes nas frases.
Ex.:
Chris and Mary are friends. Chris and Mary like to study together
Chris and Mary are friends. They like to study together
O sujeito da primeira oração "Chris and Mary" foi substituído pelo subject pronoun "They". Assim evitou-se a repetição de nomes e a frase ficou mais clara, mais fácil de ler.

He is travelling with that group of gentlemen
He is travelling with them
