I was about three years old and I remember waking up in my parent’s bed. My parents
weren’t there. They were working outside in the garden. My sister was sleeping in her crib
next to the bed. I was feeling thirsty and wanted a drink. I saw a bottle next to the stove.
The bottle was full of purple liquid and I thought it was soda. I got out of bed and walked
over to the stove. I took the bottle and opened it. Then I drank some of the liquid. It tasted
horrible and I immediately felt a burning pain in my stomach. I think I passed out because I
don’t remember any more. Later, my parents told me the bottle was full of paraffin and that
I was lucky to be alive.
