The ability of human beings to calculate the use of more variables was one of the factors that enabled the development of mathematics and logic. In the early days of mathematics and algebra, use your fingers to use calculations.

An older tool known for use in computing was the abacus and was invented in Babylon around 2400 B.C. Its original style of use was to draw lines on the sand with stones. Abacuses, of a more modern design, are still used as calculation tools.

The Roman abacus consists of marble balls that glide on a bronze plate filled with grooves. There were also some mathematical terms: in Latin "calx" means marble, as "calculations" was a ball in the abacus, and made arithmetic calculations in the "calculatee" era.

In the 5th century BC, in ancient India, Pini grammar formed a transit grammar using 3959 applicable rules like Ashtadhyāyi, in a very systematic and technical way. Pini defined meta-rules, transformations and recursion with the maximum sophistication that his grammar possessed or the theoretical computational power just like the Turing machine.

Between 200 BC and 400, Indians also invented or logarithm, from the 13th century on, logarithmic tables were produced by Islamic mathematicians. When John Napier created logarithms for computational use in the 16th century, followed by a period of progress in the development of calculation tools.

John Napier (1550-1617), Scottish inventor of logarithms, also invented Napier's bones, which were multiplication tables engraved on a stick or avoided memorizing the multiplication tables.
