Ao pesquisar na internet, percebe-se que há uma grande divergência de opiniões, se ele disse um pequeno passo para UM homem, e um grande passo para a humanidade, ou um pequeno passo para O homem e um grande passo para a humanidade, porém, pessoas da Nasa que estavam na terra alegam que na verdade ele disse que era um pequeno passa para UM homem (se referindo a ele) e não para O homem, que representaria a humanidade como um todo, alguns não ouviram o artigo ''a'', o que sugeriu a celebre frase, ''one small step for man'' e não como ele supostamente disse, ''that one small step for A man, one giant leap for mankind''', ainda não se tem certeza, mas segundo pessoas que estavam na terra na NASA, ele disse that one small step for A man
