Charles Dickens (1812-1870) foi um escritor inglês, autor dos romances “David Copperfield”, “Oliver Twist”, “Christmas Carol”, entre outras, foi o mais popular e humano dos romancistas ingleses. Mestre do suspense, do humor satírico e do horror, retrata a Londres de sua época. Foi recebido pela Rainha Vitória como um grande representante das letras inglesas.

Tinha cerca de dois anos de idade quando a família se mudou para Londres, e depois para Chatham. Filho de John Dickens e Elizabeth Barrow teve que deixar a escola quando seu pai, sempre às voltas com dívidas, foi preso.
