TEXT I
A MAN IS MADE
A man is made
Of flesh and blood
Of eyes and bone and water.
The very same things that make his son
And those that make His daughter.
A tree is made
Of leaf and sap,
Of bark and fruit and berries.
It keeps a bird’s nest
In its bouhs
And blackbirds eat the cherries.
A table’s made
Of naked wood
Planed smooth as milk.
I wonder If tables ever dream of sun,
Of wind , and rain, and thunder?
And when man takes
His axe and strikes
And sets the sawdust flying-
Is it a table being born?
Or just a tree that’s dying?

TEXT II

A LETTER OF PROTEST

Dear Sir,
I feel I must protest at the Herald’s reporting of the accident in which Gordon Banks was involved. I am a friend of the Peake family, who were also injured in the accident. All three were badly hurt when Bank’s car hit their van.

But you didn’t report this in your paper. The report only mentions Gordon Banks. This is, I think, very one-sided reporting. You only reported Banks’ injuries because he is a well-known footballer.
Other people do useful jobs, too, you know!
Yours sincerely,
Henry G. Carter Henry G. Carter
