A Delicious Dish
A pretty girl went to a Chinese restaurant. She was fascinated by the food, the chopsticks and the polite way the waiters served her. The menu listed a large number of dishes she had never eaten before. One side of the menu was written in Chinese and other side in English, so that she had no difficulty in reading it. She thought that Chinese writing was very pretty and suddenly had a bright idea. “If I embroider some of this writing on my sweater”, she thought. “It will be a great success. I’m sure that all my friends will think that it is very pretty and original.” Without looking at the translation on the other side, she copied some of the Chinese letters on a piece of paper and took the home. When she arrived home she carefully embroidered the letters on the front of her sweater. Everybody thought the sweater wonderful, and she was very pleased until one day she met a Chinese friend who, when he saw her sweater, began to laugh. “What’s the matter?”, she asked. “Why are you laughing?” “I’m laughing at your sweater”, he said. “Do you know what is written on it? It says: This dish is cheap, but delicious!”.
