Adicionar o -ing ao final de um verbo em Inglês, é semelhante a adicionar -ndo ao final dos verbos em

Português

 EATING – comendo  SPEAKING – falando  CRYING – chorando

→ Porém, há algumas regras para se colocar o ING ao final de um verbo:

verbos terminados com a letra -e, perdem este -e para que o -ing seja acrescentado.

 take » taking  make » making  organize » organizing

verbos que possuem uma sequência de consoante » vogal » consoante devem ter a última consoante dobrada

para acrescentar o ing.

 get » getting  run » running  set » setting

em verbos terminados com –ie, devemos substituir o -ie por -y

 lie » lying  die » dying

Então para formar frases no past continous devemos usar sempre o passado do verbo to be e o verbo

principal com ING. Relembrando que o passado do verbo to be tem dois formatos e deverá mudar conforme

a pessoa:

 I WAS (eu estava)

 HE WAS (ele estava)

 SHE WAS (ela estava)

 IT WAS (ele/ela estava)


 YOU WERE (você/vocês estavam)

 WE WERE (nós estávamos)

 THEY WERE (eles estavam)
