Chemical pollution is the most common type of water pollution, which can penetrate both underground and surface sources.
Groundwater pollution
As mentioned above, agriculture is the main source of water pollution, especially groundwater.
Nutritional pollution
Fertilizers contain high concentrations of nutrients, if they pollute rivers, lakes and coastal areas, they cause algae to bloom, which prevents sunlight and hinders the growth of other organisms.
Pollution from oxygen consumption
Another consequence of algae flowers is that they consume oxygen. This means that species that depend on oxygen to survive are killed off while the anaerobic bacteria thrive.
