My boss asked me if the article was ready to be published.

B. The rector asked, “Where are all the professors I called to the meeting?”.

The rector asked where all there the professors he called were.

C. Sharon asked Jules, “Can you help me with that cupboard?”.

Sharon asked Jules if she could help her with that cupboard.

D. The professor at university said, “Don’t use direct answers but complete ones”

The professor at university said not to use direct answers but complete ones.

E. The owner of the store asked, “Who’s coming this Saturday?”.

The owner of the store asked who was coming this Saturday.

Explicação:

Utilizamos indirect speech (discurso indireto) quando vamos reproduzir a fala de outra pessoa, ou seja, quando vamos reportar o que já foi dito por alguém.

Então, é muito usado para narrar histórias e fatos que já aconteceram.

É preciso se atentar ao tempo verbal da frase, pois ele muda quando o discurso direto passa a ser indireto.
