A primeira opção mais correta seria "narratives", já que as piadas e histórias (jokes and stories) não são textos que informam, mas somente contam alguma experiência.
A segunda opção seria "are happening as we are speaking" (está acontecendo enquanto nós estamos falando). Como o texto nos diz que Jokes and Stories geralmente estão no Present Simples, significa que são histórias contadas como se estivesse ocorrendo no exato momento, no tempo verbal Presente.

"I want to go home" , says the first friend.
The genie grants her wish.
"I want to go home too", says the second friend.

Todos os verbos listados e preenchidos nos espaços estão no Present simple, ou Presente simples.
Importante lembrar que em alguns verbos são adicionados um "s" no final dela, como é o caso de sends, says e agrees. Isso ocorre pois o sujeito desses verbos faz parte da 3ª pessoa do singular no Inglês, que são He/She/It.
