Money Slang

When it comes to the word MONEY, there are, just like in Portuguese, many slangs that are used.

For example, the word BACON is used as money in general. It is connected to the expression “Bring home the bacon.”

Benjamin Franklin was the president of the United States from 1785 to 1788 and as his portrait appears on the 100dollar bill. The slang “Benjamins” is in reference to his image.

The same process goes to the slang “Lincolns”. Abraham Lincoln, who was president of the USA from 1861 to 1865, when he was assassinated, is portrayed on the 5-dollar bill.
