if we do it:

$(-2y+y²+4) + (2y²+3y-4)$

now you have to remember:

• plus sign in math doesn't change anything inside the parentheses , so it just disappears.

then:

$-2y+y²+4 + 2y²+3y-4$

• we must put together similar terms which have exactly the same letters

$y + 3 {y}^{2}$

• and organizing this expression by placing the letter of the highest degree before , we'll have:

$\huge{ \bold{ \red{3 {y}^{2} + y}}}$
