Pay attention to the date of publication
See if the news is still relevant and up to date.
Read more than just the title and subtitle
Read the news to the end. Often, the title and subtitle do not match the text.

Doubt it if you get a bombshell that isn't on other news sites.
See if this is not a joke site
Some humor sites use irony to joke.
