Simple Past
É utilizado em língua inglesa para se referir a ações já concluídas (tiveram início e fim no passado).
As regras para formar o Simple past:
- Na forma afirmativa: acrescentar ED, IED, ou D ao final do verbo regular, no modo infinitivo e sem o TO;
- Na forma negativa: é utilizado o auxiliar DID para indicar o tempo verbal, assim o verbo aparece no tempo presente. A estrutura é: Sujeito - DID NOT (DIDN'T) - verbo - complemento.
- Na forma interrogativa: também utiliza o auxiliar DID. A frase é iniciada pelo DID e segue a mesma estrutura padrão, podendo ou não apresentar o NOT.
Verbos irregulares não seguem um padrão:
- O verbo eat se torna ate;
- have se torna had;
- write se torna wrote, etc.
