Title:Carnival in Rio

Carnival in Rio is a mad show. It is an escape into the world whose rules are fantasy, music and dancing. It is
not for the shy. The giant parade of samba schools is a great street theatre, a Hollywood show in real life. Each of the
schools represents a district and selects a theme for the costumes and a special samba. Each also has a “bateria”, a
marching band percussion instrument s and drums.
Most of the participants are poor people whose only way of having fun is carnival some of the schools take
an hour and a half to pass the judge’s stand. The parade starts at eight in the evening and ends at eight or nine the
following morning.
If you intend to visit Rio choose the month of February. Try to read about carnival in the local newspaper and
don’t forget to leave sadness and bad temper at home. When you return to your city, you will know a lot about
“samba” and you will be able to tell your friends about the wonderful days that you had in Rio.
