About 1700 years ago there was a man called Valentine. He was a priest. The Emperor Claudius didn’t

want men to get married. He wanted men to fight in the army. He wanted more soldiers. Valentine didn’t

agree. He helped men and women to get married in secret. When Claudius discovered, he put Valentine

in jail. Valentine cured a soldier’s daughter who was blind. Valentine sent a letter to the girl before his

death with this : “ From your Valentine.” Valentine was killed on February, 14th,270 A.D.
