Malala grew up in Pakistan. Her father was a
teacher and she attended classes in one of his
schools, which was meant for girls. Around
the time Malala was 10. the Taliban began to
take over the region where she lived. They
had very strict rules: women couldn't vote
or have jobs. for example. Then, they started
shutting down schools for girls. That was
when Malala started a blog to write about
her life. The blog was called Diary of a
Pakistani Schoolgirl. She became famous
and started speaking in public about the
situation in her region. After a while, the
government opened the schools again and
Malala went back to study. But one day after
school, while she was going home a man got
onto the bus and shot her.
