A/an  -> Indefinite article.

We use "a" before words that begin (or has initial phoneme) with consonants.
We use "an" before words that begin with wowels.

As duas palavras equivalem, em português, a um/uma

The -> Definite article.

We use "the" before nouns can be preceded or not by adjectives;
before instruments names and family names; before place names...

"The" equivale, em português: a, o, as, os.

I think I have helped. Good studies!!!
