Stereotypes are simplified views or generalizations about people, things, and places,
based on their appearance or background. The word stereotype comes from Greek and
Latin: "stereo" comes from stereos, which means hard or solid, and "type" comes from
typhus, which means image. Thus, a stereotype is a rigid or hard image about someone,
something, or a place. Stereotyping often happens in movies, advertisements, TV shows,
cartoons, soap operas, etc. The repetition of some patterns in movies when presenting
the hero, the villain, or the frail woman who needs help are some of the most evident
examples of stereotypes, but there are many stereotypes used by the Hollywood movie
industry. Stereotyping is very common in Hollywood movies. Villains, in general, are
ruthless and mean, besides, they have some desire for destruction, money, and revenge,
villains usually wear dark clothes, have a moustache or some facial hair, and sometimes
have scars and tattoos on their bodies. Heroes usually are male, white, physically strong
and completely good. In most cases, they are fearless and able to accomplish almost
everything
