DIALECT: A variety of a language, spoken in one part of the country, which is different in some words, grammar, and/or pronunciation from other forms of the same language.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: The language used in government and courts of law, and for official business. Sometimes, it is also the national language of a country.
ACCENT: A particular way of speaking which tells the listener something about the speaker's backgroung.
LINGUA FRANCA: A neutral language that is used for communication between different groups of people that speak a different first language.
FIRST LANGUAGE: A person's mother tongue or the language acquired first.
