False cognates, also called false friends or false acquaintances, are words usually derived from Latin that appear in different languages with similar spelling and therefore have the same origin, but which, over time, have acquired different meanings. These false cognates often impair learning because we are made to think they mean one thing but actually mean another. Therefore, it is necessary to be very careful when studying, always clearing up doubts with the teacher and searching the internet for anything you may have. We need to be careful, appearances are often deceiving.
