Bulb Activity 3 Let us make an electric cell using a citrus fruit, say lemon, and two thin metal plates/strips (5-6 cm long) one of copper and other of zinc. We would also need a torch bulb, or a LED, along with leads/connecting wires. Roll the fruit (lemon) under the palm of your hand to soften it up without breaking its skin. Insert the two different metallic strips, a few centimetres apart, into the lemon. Let them not touch the bottom or the skin of the fruit. Now use two pairs of cleaned up connecting wires/leads. Connect them to one metal plate each, as shown, and then to the torch bulb/LED. Observe if the bulb/LED glows! Try repeating this activity using some other vegetables/ fruits (potato, bottlegourd, tomato, orange, etc.). Make a list of the fruits/vegetables for which the set-up works!
