Present Continuous: She is living in São Paulo.

Simple Past: She lived in São Paulo.

PC: You are drinking a coke.

SP: You drinked a coke.

PC: My brother is playing football.

SP: My brother played football.  

d) He works hard.

PC: He is working hard.

SP: He worked hard.  

e) They like their teacher a lot.

PC: They like their teacher a lot.*

SP: They liked their teacher a lot.

* Alguns verbos não são geralmente usados no Present Continuous (stative verbs), mesmo que expressem algo que esteja acontecendo no momento em que se fala. São verbos que indicam:

  1. sensação, percepção (hear, see, taste etc.);
  2. estados da mente, sentimento, relacionamento (believe, forget, know, love, like, remember, think, understand etc.);
  3. posse (belong, have, own etc.).

Com os stative verbs usa-se, portanto, o Simple Present.

Entretanto, na linguagem coloquial, o verbo to like pode ser usado no continuous com o sentido de apreciar ou aproveitar.
