Primeiro vamos entender o regret e o want to be true. Regret significa arrependimento/arrepender. Want to be true significa queria que fosse verdade/real. Exemplo:

Why did I do that? :(

Tradução: Porque eu fiz aquilo? :(

Essa frase expressa arrependimento.

I wish I was there to help her.

Tradução: Queria poder estar lá para ajudá-la.

Essa frase expressa algo que queria que acontecesse, que fosse real.
