Origin of soils
When the Earth was formed about 4.5 billion years ago, there was no soil as we know it today. The surface of our planet resembled another mush, it was so soft! Gradually, with the cooling of the Earth, a crust made of rocks formed and was gradually modified until it gained the appearance it has today.
These rocks, by suffering the action of rain, wind and temperature changes - in addition to the activity of living beings - were fragmenting, breaking into smaller pieces until they reached a very small size - particles of sand, silt or clay, in descending order of size.
