Degradation of Soil

Soil degradation is when the quality of the soil diminishes making it less useful in serving its purpose as a natural resource  . This is a serious environment problem. Soil degradation can cause the decline of soil fertility , loss of organic factors, erosion , soil acidity etc. Soil is very important  resource to carry out many natural processes that serve the living beings on earth. Soil degradation can therefore cause serious issues for all of us. Asia is currently facing this major issue. Below is a list of the factors that has caused degradation of Asian soil.

Cause of soil degradation in Asia :

  • Deforestation . This is the process of destroying the forest for the purpose of urbanization
  • Unsustainable and unnatural agricultural practices
  • overgrazing. This happens when wild life is left to consume vegetation in an excessive manner and for longer period without allowing recovery and growth.
  • climatic changes and natural hazards such as floods and drought.  

This a serious cause of concern for the world. Soil degradation can lead to floods , landslides , reduction of food production and increased pollution. We have to take corrective measures now to prevent its effects and give ourselves and our children a better future.
