Nowadays, products, packaging and technology depend very much on plastic, and less than 50% of it is designed to be reused. Plastic is not a new thing, though.

_____________ snooker balls made of ivory until 1866, when it ________ replaced by celluloid, created by John Wesley Hyatt. Celluloid was also famous for being the first flexible photographic film used for still photography and motion pictures. The discovery could substitute wood, metal, stone, bone, tusk, and horn. It was believed that plastics could protect the natural world from the destructive forces of human need.

In 1907, there was a revolutionary invention that was created by Leo Hendrik Baekeland: a liquid that was able to form the exact shape of any container in which it was Bakelite, and it was used to make household products that are part of our life until today.

From 1920 on, plastic became very popular. During World War II, plastic production in the United States increased by 300%.

However, in the 1960s problems regarding plastic _______ first observed, when plastic waste was seen in the oceans, and people started to worry about environment preservation. Nowadays, the preoccupation is growing because there are threats to human health. According to some scientists, there is evidence that plastic may release chemicals into our food, water, and bodies.

Why is the excessive use of plastic harmful to the environment?

Why is the excessive use of plastic harmful to the environment?

because the amount of plastic in our oceans is increasing at an alarming rate! and thus almost all life forms within the ocean is contaminated by micro-plastic and that form of plastic has already been found within our rainfalls and we are consuming it even in fresh-water bottles and the effects of those micro-plastics have not been analyzed thoroughly by our scientists therefore we can not say what type of problems it can bring to us as humans, however one thing is sure we are consuming gradually more and more of those chemicals and as history tells us anything that is not carefully analyzed and assessed by science can result in a disaster, there is some evidence that those micro-plastics can be waning or interfering with our hormone levels and even our fertility rate therefore it can result in an utterly serious long term problem ! hence the plastic pollution need to be assessed and discussed by all humanity!
