O uso de superlatives e comparatives no inglês tem a mesma função que no português: são utilizados para descrever objetos, locais, pessoas, e o mundo a nossa volta de maneira geral.
Quando utilizamos os adjetivos comparativos, isto é, modificamos o uso adjetivo para que ele assuma essa função, nós estamos criando uma relação de superioridade ou inferioridade em relação aos objetos/locais/pessoas/etc. comparados.
Já quando usamos superlativos, estamos afirmando que uma certa característica está no extremo (superior ou inferior) de uma qualidade. Isto é, o melhor/pior entre toda e qualquer possibilidade.
Comparativos são formados quando acrescentamos o sufixo -er ao final de um adjetivo (ou quando acrescentamos a palavra more antes dele, a depender do número de sílabas).
Superlativos são formados quando acrescentamos o sufixo -est ao final de um adjetivo (ou quando acrescentamos a palavra most antes dele, a depender do número de sílabas).
ATENÇÃO: Estas regras se aplicam a formação de comparativos e superlativos regulares. Os irregulares não tem outro jeito: é preciso memorizar.
Frases utilizando comparativos:
1- Sally is older than Julie.
2- Paul is taller than Mike
3- Louis cooks better than Lydia (aqui temos um comparativo irregular, ele refere-se ao adjetivo good)
4- Monica is more clever than Joey
5- Layton is smarter than Phoenix
6- Draven is stronger than Caitlyn
7- A zombie is scarier than a ghost. (aqui o adjetivo scary termina com "y". então, tiramos o "y" e acrescentamos -ier)
8- Lola is faster than Lara
9- John is more handsome than Larry
10- Australia is more beautiful than Switzerland
11- Linux is safer than Windows
12- Today, I arrived earlier than yesterday.
13- During the week, by neighbor is louder than on the weekends .
14- Brazil is hotter than Canada. (aqui temos um adjetivo formado pela combinação: consoante-vocal-consoante. Neste caso repetimos a última letra e só depois acrescentamos o -er. )
15- Sweden is colder than Mexico.
16- The river is fuller than yesterday.
17- Squids are uglier than octopuses.
18- He feels happier than last year.
19- Japanese people are more polite than Americans.
20- The difference between good and bad is subtler than you think.
21- Megadeth is worse than Avenged Sevenfold.
22- The neighbor's grass is always greener than yours.
23- Alicia Keys is more charming than Lady Gaga.
24- Romario was a more aggressive player than Neymar is today.
25- Dancers are more talented than bodybuilders.
26- Amazon Rainforest is wilder than the Sahara Desert.
27- Atlantic Ocean is deeper than Lake Ness.
28- Rumple is greedier than Scrooge.
29- Beyoncé is more passionate than Katy Perry

Frases utilizando superlativos:

6- The alaskan malamute is one of the biggest dogs.
7- My grandmother is the most thoughtful person I know.
8- That day, Sarah was the happiest girl in town.
9- This road is the most dangerous in São Paulo state.
10- Avengers: Infinity War is the best movie I've seen this year.
11- The pyramids are among the oldest monuments.
12- In South America, Brazil has the largest territory.
13- Michael Jackson was the most famous pop singer in history.
14- Stranger Things is one of the worst shows I've seen.
15- This is the easiest way to get things done.
16- The Antartic Circle is the coldest place on earth.
17- This is the strangest thing I've ever seen.
18- My mother is the strongest woman I know.
19- Flash is the fastest man alive!
20- She is the prettiest girl I've ever seen.
21- Cinderella is the kindest princess.

25- Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
26- Meryl Street is the most convincing actor. ("actress" também funciona, mas um movimento dos próprios atores dos Estados Unidos está lutando pra tirar a palavra feminina de "actor" de uso. Afinal, não existe um "doctor" e uma "doctress". )
27- I've been to one of the tallest buildings in the world.
28- Brazil has the best soccer players.
29- Italians have the most delicous food.
30- Japan is one of the smallest countries.
As frases comparativas são utilizadas para comparar dois substantivos diferentes, enquanto que as frases superlativas são empregadas para demonstrar superioridade ou inferioridade em algum quesito.
No caso das frases comparativas, temos a seguinte estrutura para montar as sentenças:
Substantivo + Verbo + Adjetivo comparativo + than + Substantivo
Já para as frases superlativas, temos uma estrutura um pouco diferente da anterior:
Substantivo + Verbo + the + Adjetivo superlativo + Substantivo
