Regular verbs have 3 forms, affirmative, negative and interrogative forms.

Affirmative form- Subject and main verb's past, identification of, if is regular or irregular, to know your combination.

If the verb ends in a vowel before y, receives ed.

I play with my friends- I played with my friends

If the verb ends in a consonant before y, removes the y and puts ied.

I try to make money- I tried to make money.

If the verb ends in a consonant/vowel/consonant and the last syllable is tonic doubles the last consonant and puts "ed".

I prefer eat something healthy- I preferred eat something healthy.

If the verb ends in e, receives d.

I like them- I liked them.

Negative- Use the auxiliary verb did and not to form negative sentences in the simple past. The short form is didn't.

The student did not (didn't) come to the school.

I did not (didn't) wait for lunch.

Interrogative- Put the auxiliary did (past of do) before the subject of the sentence, forming an interrogative sentence.

Did he go to the supermarket?
Did they study for the test?

Irregular Verbs

End differently for each verb, It's not necessary ed and the auxiliary verb did.

I knew (know) the answer of question 16.
I paid (pay) the rent of the house.
He met (meet) people at the party.
