The past continuous tense describes or events in a time before now.

Affirmative form: person + verb “to be” in the past (was/were) + verb with “ing” + complement.
Ex: I was here. (Eu estive aqui.)

Negative form: person + verb “to be” in the past (was/were) + not + verb with “ing” + complement.
Ex: They were not studying during the classes (Eles não estavam estudando durante as aulas).

Interrogative form: verbo “to be” (was/were) + person + verb with "ing" + complement.
Ex: Was Lisa copying Johnny's exercises? (A Lisa estava copiando os exercícios do Johnny?).
