was= era, estava (singular)
were= eram, estavam (plural)

Was e were são as formas no passado do verbo to

was = I, he, she, it (eu, ele, ela, ele/ela [obj./animais])
were = You, we, they (você/vocês, nós, eles/elas)

Ex. We are in the park now, but yesterday we were at school.
John is busy now, but a few moments ago he was free.
