O verbo Was é usado para os pronomes I, He, She ou It. Já o verbo Were é usado para You, We, You (vocês) e They. Aliás, os dois são utilizados no pretérito (ou passado). Exemplos:
I was single when I lived here. (Eu era solteira quando morei lá.)
Were you there last night? (Você estava lá ontem à noite?)
