Piracuru can also be called as arapaima or paiche. Its a large species of bonytongue and was native in Amazon, South America and belongs to the   Arapaimidae s family. This specie can be considered the world's largest freshwater fish, reaching 3m or 9.8 ft.

They have been considered exctinct due to overfishing and habitat loss.

In some languages it can mean red fish.
