SÃO os passados do verbo ( to be)
Explicação:
was = é usado para os pronomes ( I, He, she , it )
were = é usado para os pronomes ( you, we, they)
fica assim aforma com was e were:
I was
YOU were
HE was
SHE was
IT was
WE were
THEY were

O "was" e o "were" são os verbos "am" e "are" conjugados no passado. O "was" é usado com os pronomes "eu" (I), "ela" (she), "ele"(he) e "ele/ela" para coisas não vivas (it). Já o "were" é usado junto com o "você" (you), "nós" (we), "eles" (they).
Por exemplo:
Eu era - I was
Ela era - She was
Ele era - He was
Aquilo era - It was
Você era - You were
Nós eramos - We were
Eles eram - They were
