King Midas and the golden touch
A long time ago there lived a king named Midas. King Midas loved gold. There was only one thing he loved more. That was his little daughter, Marygold.
King Midas lived in a year large palace filled with gold. One day, when Midas was counting his gold, a young man appeared. He said, “You are rich, King Midas. No other room in this world has much gold. Are you satisfied with all this gold?”
“No, I am not,“ said the king. “I wish that everything I touch would turn to gold.”
The young man smiled. “The Golden Touch!” he said. “Are you sure you want The Golden Touch?”
“Oh, yes!” said the king.
Midas woke up early the next morning. After he got up, everything he touched turned to gold: the clothes, the rolls, the glasses, and even the flowers. Little Marygold came into the room. She was crying! She was holding a rose from her father’s garden. “It is ugly!” Marygold said. “It is hard and it has no smell.”
Marygold ran to her father’s side. The king put his arm around his child. Marygold turned to gold!
“Dear child!” The king’s eyes were filled with tears.
King Midas heard a sound and he saw the young man standing there.
“I am very sad” There are more important things than gold. How I hate The Golden Touch!”
“Do you want to lose The Golden Touch?” asked the young man.
“With all my heart,” said the king.
“Then hurry to the river, throw yourself into the water and bring water to pour it on your daughter”. King Midas did so. All at once the roses were growing again and his daughter came to life.
Midas smiled. He was a happy man. He never wanted gold again.
