Teenagers get together to discuss climate change
In August 2009, five hundred teenagers met in Denmark for a competition to design new products to help tackle (enfrentar) climate change. The idea behind the meeting was to put together teenagers representing different countries, and the winning ideas would then be passed on for discussion at the United Nations.
The British team got their place in the competition after impressing judges with the work they were doing with renewable energy. In their after-school eco club they came up with (sugeriram) the idea to power ( fornecer energia) a new building using renewable (renovável) energy and even helped architects to design it.
In Denmark, fourteen-year-old Robert Appeleton says he feels even more devoted to green energy: “ The younger generation are the ones that are going to be affected by today’s generation and the decisions they make,” he explains. “ So I feel it’s up to us to be more passionate. We are the ones who will see the results”.
Pipaluck Nuuk, 17, from Greenland has a similar opinion “ I think we look at things differently from many of these politicians. We are the ones inheriting this world, and this is our future that we are talking about, and the future of four children and grandchildren.”
