Words can be amazingly powerful if you know how to use them. Read any book about influencing people and you will see what I mean. Some shy people do not understand how their behavior, and especially their language patterns, influence others. It is important to make the distinction between thinking or saying something and really having that perception. For example, you might read a really good article about women in a magazine and think, “yeah, that’s true. That really makes sense.” You might even explain it to other people. But you still will not behave in a way that reflects that perception; you do not have the rule that goes along with it. Your perception of yourself, your sense of identity, is a very powerful motivator and dictates your strongest rules. Sometimes you will not do things simply because those things conflict with what you believe you can and should do. Any decision you make is largely influenced by the emotional state you are in at the time. If you are in a positive, happy state, you are much more likely to behave in positive, rewarding ways. If you are in a “bad mood”( mau humor), you tend to make poor decisions and ignore the positive things around you. How do emotional states work? If you concentrate, you can often put yourself in whatever state you want, ( Think happy thoughts!). So, much of your work in overcoming shyness will involve learning how to control your emotional states.
